Critics on the art of Salvador Alicea
Posted by Salvador Alicea On 02/05/2008

"These photographs of the artist Salvador Alicea again challenge us, the audience,
to witness a great photo gallery of his legacy to the Puerto Rico arts. Each image
tells us about an intense sense of what it is inherently to Puerto Rican, to the
humanly Caribbean . That way Alicea runs a pastoral sacral letter about the visual,
a world slaughtered by wars, by hunger." "Alicea, our "Salvador" of the daguerreotype
landscape, shakes in this world sadomasoquista inherited, and proposing a new review.
Let's take a new look, making sacred the new image and to the sacrilege of those
who do not love children or animals, or planetary flora. Ultimately, through their
photos Alicea give us back the "locus amoenus." More or less, it is like saying,
paradise."

Review of "The Charm of my Island"
Posted by Salvador Alicea On 02/05/2008

"Salvador Alicea is an artist, photographer and visionary Puerto Rican, whose passion
for the art of photography speaks for itself. Its lens collect the grandeur of creation
hidden in the detail, which sometimes get lost in the rush of everyday life. Alicea
stops, stops and points us toward mastery with the images that make Puerto Rico
a point of contact with a dynamic universe that vibrates in harmony. His technical
preparation and attention to detail of light, shadow and space facilitate the experience
of the viewer. A journey through the lens of Salvador Alicea invites us to reflection,
gratitude and celebration of our identity and cultural richness. "

Enciclopedia Estudiantil y de Puerto Rico, It is a great work from

March to July 2008 Updates
Posted by Salvador Alicea On 07/04/2008
Wow! What a busy last several months - it seems like it's been non-stop, well, because
it has been.
Laura and I hit the 2nd Photography Expo "El Encanto de mi Isla" starting on at
the Universidad del Este, Carolina city several weeks of February and then were
off to Arecibo and other country cities for a week of photography.
It’s good to be at office for a while and just catch my breath, and get this newsletter
out to all our loyal readers. As soon as we returned from the island, I went on
my way to Orlando for Photoshop World where I attended to Photoshop World, the best
and largest Adobe® Photoshop® and photography training event of the world. I get
to the island with a lot of enthusiasm and new learned things.
On April 1,
2008 I spend whole day learning to
capture the moment by
improving my on-location photography skills, including lighting,
composition, and posing with David
Ziser, an internationally-renowned wedding photographer who has shared his
knowledge with tens of thousand's of photographers in five languages and in 14 countries
worldwide.
Here some images I took during my Tuesday Master Class. On April 3, 2008 we attended
to a practical training about location lighting using the Nikon
Creative Lighting System (CLS). This was an amassing photography experience, learning
photography lighting directly from
Joe McNally, an internationally acclaimed
American photographer and
long-time photojournalist. From 1994 until 1998, he was LIFE magazine's staff photographer,
the first one in 23 years.
On April 4, 2008 we spend the day with John Caponigro,
Vicent Versace and Jay Maisel
learning digital photography and its relation with light, color, gesture and fine
art photography.
Say Good Bye to the Moon
Posted by Salvador Alicea On 02/20/2008
At 9:43 PM Atlantic time of the 20th of February 2008 a total eclipse occurred.
The partial eclipse begins as the Moon's eastern edge slowly moves into the Earth's
umbra shadow. During the partial phases, it takes

just over an hour for the Moon's orbital
motion to carry it entirely within the Earth's dark umbra. The color and brightness
of the totally eclipsed Moon can vary considerably from one eclipse to another.
Dark eclipses are caused by volcanic gas and dust which filters and blocks much
of the Sun's light from reaching the Moon. But since no major volcanic eruptions
have taken place recently, the Moon will probably take on a vivid red or orange
color during the total phase. After the total phase ends, it is once again followed
by a partial eclipse as the Moon gradually leaves the umbra shadow. The total phase
of a lunar eclipse is called totality. At this time, the Moon is completely immersed
within the Earth's dark umbra shadow. During the February 20 eclipse totality will
last just under 50 minutes.
